Transformed Lamp with Drop Cloth Flowers

I have this lamp in our office that used to sit out in our living room, but the red lampshade just didn't go with our new light green & navy blue color scheme anymore.  I moved it into the office around the time we got our new sectional from Ikea.  I like having a little lamp on my desk to turn on when I don't want the big lamp on & just want a little "office mood lighting".  Ha!

However, it was getting to feel a little boring to me.  I've had this lamp for a long time... I don't even remember when I got it, but my guess would be around 2004.  I've never done anything to it, so it was just in its original state.

I had a ton of drop cloth fabric leftover from my Bathroom Hooks project, so I thought it'd be the perfect thing to update my lamp with.  I originally wanted to cover the whole lamp shade in the fabric, but after playing around with it, it seemed like it would be very difficult to do, since the lampshade is a square-ish tapered one.  Bummer.  So I decided I'd use the material to make some flowers to update it with instead.

My flowers were all made by just cutting a strip of material, and twisting & turning the material into itself, using hot glue periodically to hold each flower together, then once I got to the end, I would tuck it under the flower & hot glue it to the bottom.  Then I hot glued each flower to the top boarder of the lampshade.

I thought about covering the whole thing, but that would have taken a TON of flowers & those things take some time to make.  I decided to do the top rim for now, and I can fill in more later if I so choose.  I think it looks pretty good like this though.

Pretty easy little project, just took a bit of time.  I like that it's a bit jazzed up now though & not so boring.  Cute & free, yea those are the best!
