Anyway, moving on, I know you're curious... what is this big beautiful thing with all the pretty little drawers? It's not a dresser, it's not a filing cabinet really or a card catalog. Nope, it's a map chest! And it is beeeeeautiful!
Oh my isn't it so lovely?!?! I know! It would look amazing in anyone's home. Alas, it is HUGE and not cheep no-sir-ee.
I could only find surprisingly few examples of old map chests used in people's homes. You'd think there'd be a bunch of them considering how beautiful they are!

ReplyDeleteI work in constrution and we have pieces like these throughout our office to house architectural drawings. Obviously they wouldn't be called map chests in this case, but I don't know of their official name either. I just tried Googling "plans chest" and "architectural blueprint cabinet" and founds some great photos. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteI bought one off of craig's list recently...they were $50 per set of 5 drawers. I bought four sets to store my craft supplies in. However they are so huge and so heavy that I'm moving my craft room down to the ground floor because there is no way the drawers are going up the stairs! I'll send you a picture once the area is set up.
