A Handbound Book for Mom

I had a wonderful day yesterday hanging out with my mom!  I worked a race in the morning, so I got her entry into it, so she ran the 5K I was working in the morning.  Then after going to my house to clean up, we went shopping.  Oh yea mother daughter shopping days!  They are so much fun :)

I also gave her a little gift that I whipped up last week.  I gave her a little hand-bound book that can be used as a journal or photo album.

I used a Coptic stitch on this book.  It has 20 single sheet pages, so 40 pages back & front, plus the covers, obviously!

I sewed each sheet in by hand with some blue waxed thread.  I love how it turned out, it looks so lovely!  With this kind of stitch, the pages lie completely flat when the book is open.  I love this feature, it makes the books so much easier to write in or do various kinds of art within the book.

Doesn't it look nice?

My mom was a fan.  She says she's going to use it as a scrapbook photo album & put in pictures of various mother daughter trips we take together, like our one to Chicago last year when I ran the marathon.  I'm so glad I was able to make her something that she loves!
